Patriot's Day
In MA (and in ME too they tell me) we celebrate Patriot's Day . It is a big deal and our town has its own parade which was held on Sunday. We sat on the sidewalk flanking the site of the bloodiest battle of the day. I hope Jack appreciates how amazing it is we can walk to a spot where Paul Revere passed on his famous ride!
The parade featured a large assortment of firetrucks, police cars and fife/drum corps, some coming from as far as Westbrook, CT and Manchester, NH. There was also the usual assortment of scouts, mainly brownies and junior girl scouts. There was a jazz band (pictures included) and our town's pop warner cheerleaders, which are actually national champions in their division. This surprised me greatly until I looked at the roster of champions and they are all in NJ, CT, or MA. The big football/cheer states must compete in something other than Pop Warner.

Eventful Week
Now that the weather is nice, it seems like we are out and about a lot more even though Jack has a minor cold that has kept us out of our normal classes.
I don't have pictures, but Jack had his first T rides this week. (I have seen people get screamed at for taking pictures on the T so didn't chance it.) We took the bus to the subway and went downtown to meet a friend of mine from high school for lunch. Jack was extremely well behaved the whole time and we made a lot of new friends on the bus:) Actually as we got on the subway in the same car was a 12 month old girl on her first T ride as well. As bizarre as this is, it was his first trip to a city.
We also have gone to the swings pretty much everyday this week.

Double Digits (10 Months)
~ We have a crawler and slow cruiser (walking with support along tables/chairs)
~ He loves to do "downward facing dog" all of a sudden. For those with no yoga knowledge this is hands/feet on the floor and butt up high in the air.
~ He is desperate to finally be able to pull to standing but still isn't quite there. He can still only get to his knees.
~ He walks quite well if you hold his hands.
~ He loves to pull all the DVD's out of our tv stand (see pictures!).
~ We know he is awake when we look at the monitor and he is sitting up, the first thing he does when he is even semi-conscious.
~His sleeping is atrocious again - his third tooth came in derailing a slightly better stretch. Now he is a plugged-up nose. I won't get into the gory details, but let us say it isn't good.
~ He is about 30" and 22 1/2 lbs I would guess. We have broken out some of the 18-24 month clothes.
~ We are now giving him table food as there are very little "off-limit" foods - only nuts, shellfish, eggs, fresh strawberries and honey. Whatever we are having for dinner, Jack gets a little of. Last night he had bits of a cheeseburger! Cheese is a big favorite overall. He loves cheerios as well. He still doesn't eat large quantities of food, but he has had lots of different tastes at this point. It is fantastic to be able to feed him in a high chair at a restaurant and give him a cheerio if he is being fussy.
~He is going through a I-don't-want-my-afternoon-nap stage and taking his morning nap late. From everything I can gather it is too young for him to be really needing only one nap (especially since he doesn't sleep well at night) so I guess this is a phase we will get through. I don't really care except it is hard to plan around.
~ He seems to recognize a lot more words all of a sudden. Cheerio and kisses are my new favorites:)
~ He is signing more. It is hard to tell sometimes as baby signs can be very subtle, but besides "milk" and "hello" which has done for awhile (though inconsistently), I am pretty sure he has recently started signing "all done," "play" and also "pooping." (The latter sign I have been making whenever I see (or hear) him straining to go. The theory is at some point in the distant future he *may* do it early enough for us to get him to the bathroom. Worst case if he does it we will know it is definitely time for a diaper change). My mom/baby class's "teacher" said he signed "play" during a hello song we sing each week. I didn't see as he was facing her but she would know better than me having seen a million babies!
~ He says mamamama and dadadada a lot and we are both pushing him to associate it with us.
(I will add pictures sometime soon. The camera battery is charging and I should be able to download some tonight).

Enjoying the weather
It was sunny and in the low 70s yesterday so we took advantage of our front porch for a change.

He can actually see some of what is going on out in the world from in there. Ok, well, he can see the little that actually goes on on our street, that is.

We also visited the park and got some serious swinging time in!
