Exciting News!

The boys are excited to welcome their first, first cousin to the world! Mariel "Molly" Katherine was born on 4/17 and Jack has already said he wants his new cousin to come here to our house. Sadly (for everyone) he will have to wait a few months for that (we hope they can stop by in August), but we are already eagerly anticipating meeting Molly and seeing more pictures!

9 Months

*Nate crawls. (Seriously crawls - a lot, quickly, on any surface)

*Nate pulls to standing. (On anything, quickly & easily). His crib is now at the lowest position, where it will stay until we convert the crib to a toddler bed someday.

*Nate makes lots of noises - true babbling (da-das, baba etc) and some screeching/wheezing sounds too. That said, he almost always has his pacifier in his mouth! He LOVES it.

* His sleeping isn't good, but his napping is a bit better. He is napping 2 times a day, for between 40 and 70 minutes. At night it is all over the place, but he is up at least 2x. He normally goes down at about 8ish and is up at 7:15is.

* Nate had an allergic reaction to blueberry yogurt this month (no respiratory issues, just hives on his face, neck and hands). Our pediatrician decided to hold off doing anything until his 9 month appt (in about 10 days). Obviously I am not giving him any dairy or fresh berries at this point. He had had blueberries in jarred baby food numerous times before this without incident, however 2 pediatricians (mine and a neighbor) both said it could be the dairy OR the berries he was reacting to. We are hoping it isn't anything serious (there are many allergies that kids grow out of, sometimes even before 12 months), but we won't know for sure for awhile, most likely. He hasn't had any other issues since this, thankfully.

* He eats solids 2x a day - lunch and dinner. I have been giving him cheerios/puffs to not much success. He does LOVE the teething biscuits we have given him though. He also, sometimes, will eat Baby Mum Mums (like an airy rice cracker that melts in your both). He doesn't seem to have a strong favorite in terms of tastes - the only thing he doesn't like is jarred peas - I make those fresh for him and then he gobbles them up. Hopefully he turns into an easy eater like his brother (favorite food: enchiladas!).

* He likes to crawl through the play tunnel Santa brought him for Christmas and his huge jungle toy too. Mainly he likes to try to get whatever Jack is playing with (you can imagine how that turns out!). He also loves to find remotes and he is always turning on the DVD player or messing with volume controls (randomly, of course). He also likes playing with shoes. Sometimes we find ours (which we leave by the door) in toy bins.

* He is super squirmy on the changing table - making diaper changes a challenge at times.

* Nate still has no teeth and it doesn't look like any are imminent.

* Nate, sometimes, will wave hello. He definitely gets very excited when mom, dad or Jack comes in a room after a long(ish) absence.

* He loves, loves peek-a-boo.

Super crawler

He is even faster than this now!

Yummy

Nate (and Jack?!) love our teething biscuits... Strangely, Jack is definitely teething (molars) but Nate isn't yet.

Our recent adventures

We have been spending lots of time at parks & the backyard lately. The gorgeous weather (after the dismal rain) has been great.

Children's Museum

So, there was an ad about Curious George exhibit at the Boston Children's Museum, so I finally got my act together and got some friends together to go. (I hadn't been since Jack was about 15 months?). I also joined the museum so hopefully we will make the most of it. There is reciprocal privileges at a ton of other museums besides along 6, yes 6 people to enter!

We had a great time, Jack liked it, but was a bit overwhelmed too I think. It is mobbed, even on a random Thursday morning. We only saw about 20% of the place, so there is a lot to bring us back!

Jack's favorite activity was opening the "elevator" doors in George's "apartment building" entryway to reveal the fire fighters (see pic above with both boys). He did this for over and over.

He also really liked a room where you dropped golf balls into all sorts of contraptions with ramps and funnels, etc. (last picture)

I am not entirely sure, though, if the subway ride was the most exciting bit of all.

Moving on up, and up and up (and sometimes over)

Nate is now pulling up on everything he can!

and this is just cute...
