7 Month Update (oops, not 9)

I had his picture taken at picture people today - you can view a slide show here:
Slide Show

The password is our street name (no caps or anything).

Nate sits. He almost never falls backwards. He sometimes dives forward to his belly.

Nate can roll over from his back to his front. He doesn't really like the outcome of this when he is in bed (more on sleep later).

He scoots backwards and around when on his stomach. Definitely not a crawl yet, but he gets all around the room, but not in any coherent manner.

If you leave him sitting in his crib, he can reach the side and pull up. (The mattress is getting lowered promptly - not to worry too much, he can't get to sitting from his back or front). He tries to pull up on Jack's large trucks, occasionally he gets to his knees momentarily. He also pivots all around.

His sleeping is atrocious. Yes, atrocious, for weeks. He generally only wants to nap on laps, in a carrier or in a car. But the real problem is night time. He still (usually) goes down relatively easily at 7- 7:30. However, he wakes up a ton and doesn't want to go back in the crib - only wants to sleep on our laps. We are not getting much sleep. He had a minor cold a few weeks ago and nothing has gone right since.

His eating fell off when he was sick, but it is back OK now. He eats sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, apples, pears, bananas with oat or rice cereal. He generally eats one a day, but I am going to start a second feeding asap.

(sorry for all the typos I am sure are here - I am too tired to care!)

Fun Upstairs

I rarely take my camera upstairs to the 3rd floor as it is such a mess (part storage, part play room, sometimes guestroom).

Anyway, here are the boys in the "nanny nest." This was coined by Anne as it is up in the trees and where the grandmas (aka nannies) stay when visiting. The name has stuck with Jack.

Recovering & Nate Pics

Both boys have been sick - fevers, lethargy, cough, stuffy noses - bleh. Jack is back to normal, Nate seems to be except he is not into solids the last couple of days.

In happier news, here are some cute/funny pictures of Nate.

Big Boy Bed

On Friday, we converted Jack's crib into his "big boy bed." We had been talking about it for awhile, but he finally said he wanted it a few days in a row and said "mommy, pull off side" and tried to pull it off with his arms. I guess he was ready. He has done great, no additional wake-ups or anything! He stays in it and calls us if he needs us, so far. I am pretty sure that won't last forever, but we are pleased so far.

We also have started, slowly, slowly, getting him to use his "red potty." He pees pretty much every night before bed in it without troubles, and once in awhile during the day. He is very pleased with himself when he pees, but seems to have no great rush about doing it all the time. We aren't pushing it too hard, but he seems like it will come along reasonably well.

Nate's 6 month check-up

All is going great with Nate. He is 19lbs 15oz (85th percentile), 28.5" (97th!) and his head is staying steady at 40th. The doctor thought he looked great and was very very impressed by his amazing sitting skills. He, at this point, really can sit very well, reach from side to side and grab toys etc. Next appointment will be in April @ 9 months. He does have to go back in a month to get his follow-up flu and H1N1 boosters.

Nate's Half-Birthday!

Nate is 6 months old today. First, some cute pictures, then an update.

Nate, how nice of him, threw a bag of chips on the floor the other day!

Nate, after about 3 weeks of being up for hour(s) at night, is back to sleeping all night. He goes down extremely easily at about 7:15 and sleeps until 6-7 when he eats, and normally goes back down for another hour. Couldn't ask for more! His napping is not great. He seems to need to nap at about 10:30 (but usually won't) and then sometimes gets a quick one at 1ish. His only real nap is when he lies on my lap during Jack's nap. Then he sleeps over an hour.

So the rolling over comment last month was premature. He did roll over a whole bunch one day, but hasn't since! Weird.

He sits up quite straight now. He can grab for toys and pass them hand-hand while sitting on his own. He gets tired and falls over still quite a bit. He also, sometimes, can get from sitting to his tummy without bonking his head.

He hasn't shown any interest in rolling back to front. When he is on his tummy he scoots around a bit by squirming. He certainly can pivot in circles readily.

He gets made if you take away something from him that he still wants.

He will have cooing conversations, but no real babbling yet. Lots of screeches and coos though.

He is a very good eater. He ate almost an entire jar of sweet potatoes along with about an ounce of milk and a tablespoon of rice cereal the first day we offered it to him. (So far he has only had sweet potatoes and rice cereal). The bowl was empty, so I stopped, but I think he would have kept going. He also has a bottle every night at about 6, of about 5 ounces of pumped milk. He gets very excited when he sees it and eager grabs for it. He eats this will sitting at the table with us. He nurses 6-8 times a day.

An educated guess puts his weight at 19 1/2lbs. Based on his clothes I think he is taller than Jack was at this age. That would put him at about 29" if he really is taller. We shall see at his 6 month check-up in about 10 days.

He still fits in most of his 12 month/6-12 month clothes, but some are too tight/short. I have taken out his 12-18 month stuff and the onesies fit great in the torso, but the arms are a bit long. Same with the pants.
